Julie Malone | Luminous
Through color and mark-making, I attempt to stimulate the viewer with a lasting image that can be cherished for a lifetime. The subject of my work is generally unclear and truly imagined but it hints at something known: a sunset, trees, water, a garden. I am fascinated with the visual effects that color makes when it is revealed by light streaming across objects, and when the glorious sun illuminates our landscape during both sunrise and sunset.
Julie Malone’s exhibit titled, “LUMINOUS” will feature over 30 oil paintings from both, 2014 and 2015. Each painted panel is hand-built and custom framed by the artist, Julie Malone.
She was born in Kansas City in 1971. She received a BFA in Studio Art/Painting from Central Missouri State University in 1995 and moved to St. Louis in 1996. She began her career as a digital designer working within the decorative, laminate industry. Her painting and creative drive were impacted in 1999, after the birth of her first child. At that time she moved from the corporate world to pursue her lifelong love of painting. While earlier trained in the figurative, Julie evolved into the abstract. Influenced by life and living, color theory and digital imagery, her work took on a distinctive style as she stamped her unique technique. Her color application is rich and the forms well defined with carving and scratch drawing. She prefers to paint on wood panels and composite surfaces, all of which she hand builds, joins and frames.
SOHA was conceived in March of 2011 and opened in June of 2011. A lifelong dream, she finally has figured out how to balance her career with her dream. With two lovely daughters at age 13 and 5 she happily "kicks it" every day to make it happen. We hope you enjoy the selection of monthly exhibits focusing on local artists with a wide range of mediums.
